Are the Christian and Jewish Sabbath the same?

0

The Sabbath was put in place by God as a way for his children to stop – to stop their lives for a day and be able to look up, gain perspective and then once again move forward.  In the 10 Commandments, the Sabbath is clearly on Saturday.  Why then do we not observe it that way?  Are we supposed to follow the other 9 commandments but not this one?  Different denominations treat this differently. Is the whole idea of a day of rest is actually a good thing.

Several weeks ago, we talked about God showing favoritism to the Jews in the Old Testament.  We looked at the reasons for it and how God’s favoritism progressed from individuals to a family to a nation.  This morning we need to look at the New Testament – funny thing about this – not only is there favoritism, but it is seemingly concerning eternity!  Why would God do that?  What kind of benefit comes from this?  Stay with us as we delve into God, Jesus, the New Testament and favor!

Proverbs 21:2 – 3 “Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts. To do righteousness and justice is desired by the LORD more than sacrifice.”

Several weeks ago, we talked about God showing favoritism to the Jews in the Old Testament. We looked at the reasons for it and now we need to look at the New Testament – funny thing – not only is there favoritism, but it is seemingly concerning eternity! Why would he do that? For Everyone’s benefit, of course!

We all have our favorites. Favorite colors, seasons, sports, teams, foods. Sometimes we have favorite people, places and things. We may have a favorite chair, movie or song or a favorite saying, website or group. When you think about it, our “favorites” can really dominate our lives. Do you schedule your time around your favorite TV show? Do you get especially quiet when your favorite song comes on? Do you have a favorite early morning Christian Talk Show ;-) Yes, our favorites are important and that leads us to an important question – Does God have and does God play favorites? If He does, does this mean there is there some level of inequity in His plan? Join us as we look into God, favoritism and the human race…

We live in a world of battles and contradictions.  We have political battles, philosophical battles and moral battles.  We have battles between nations, peoples and religions.  We battle disease, cold and hunger.  We battle ourselves.  And we battle against evil.  We battle against the dark, treacherous and sin filled paths of evil.  And if that isn’t enough, that battle also takes place with powers that we can only imagine, both for good and evil.  This morning we will look at the powers of darkness – the powers of evil as expressed thru the Demons who inhabit our atmosphere.

Watch “Is the Bible Literal or Symbolic?”

0

2 Peter 3:16, 17 “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

Christians who believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word have long recognized that Bible study requires interpretation.  And it is no surprise that there are have been differences among students of the Bible about what various texts mean.  One of the major areas of interpretation and difference is the question about if the Bible to be understood literally or symbolically.  And it is a question we need to consider seriously if we truly want to learn what God has placed in his Word for us to know.  It cannot be a matter of preference!  It must be a commitment to seek the truth in full submission to God’s will.

How Dangerous are Demons?

0

This is one of those topics we try and discuss every year.  Demons are real and they are dangerous.  The most serious problem comes (I think) when we make them an acceptable part of our entertainment world – something we can appreciate and even at times root for.  I am reminded of the movie “Hellboy” – I have only seen parts, but it portrays the demon world as integrated with our own – and it even gives us opportunity to laugh at them!  Not Good!  We plan on discussing people who dabble in the demonic, movie clips, scary encounters, both real and imagined to those who stand against such things etc…  Please engage with us on this one – the more and varied the input the better the result!!
